Renewal of General Registration
The profession of dental hygiene became self-regulated in PEI through the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Dental Hygienists Regulations on March 1, 2023. The practising dental hygienists registered and in good standing with the PEI Dental Council automatically became registered members of the College of Dental Hygienists of PEI.
For the 2023 renewal only, the requirements for the registered dental hygienists are:
- Fill out the mandatory information in your HMS profile - your contact and employment information, sign the legal statement
- Provide a certificate of professional liability insurance - upload the proof document under Miscellaneous tab of your HMS member profile
- Self-declare compliance with your existing continuing education program as was required by the PEI Dental Council
- Pay the general registration renewal fee - you will find the payment instructions in your HMS member profile
The renewal must be completed by March 31, 2023.
General registration is due for renewal annually by March 31. The renewals are open as of March 1.
Completed information required for renewal and renewal fees are due and payable no later than March 15. After that date, a late fee applies.
To start the renewal process, log into the HMS, and make sure to:
- Complete your continuing education and competency information
- Complete your active practice hours information
- Update the Certificate of Insurance if needed
- Declare that you have not been charged with a criminal offence since registration
- Pay the renewal fee (Fee Schedule)
Reinstatement of general registration
An application for renewal may only be made until March 31 in any registration year. After that date, an application for reinstatement is required to renew registration and reinstatement is only available three years following the date of the lapse in registration. A reinstatement fee is required in addition to the registration fee.
To be considered for reinstatement by the CDHPEI registrar, you must log in to the HMS, and:
- Complete your continuing education and competency information
- Complete your active practice hours information
- Update the Certificate of Insurance if needed
- Update the Criminal Record Screening
- Pay the reinstatement fee
- Pay the registration fee
